Final Reflection

In the beginning of the trimester, I recall stepping foot in this classroom wondering what there was to learn about digital photography. I figured it was simple, just like taking pictures on my phone. But from this class, I learned it was a lot different. Taking pictures with a good blend of compositional elements takes practice and thought. This is an example of one of my earlier work in this class.
This picture of my grandma is okay for a beginner, but the compositional elements are not very well thought-out. The lighting on her face washes her out and the background is distracting. At the time, I did not have a very good grasp of what makes a good picture.

Later on, I took these pictures.

These later pictures have the elements of a photo more carefully displayed.

Furthermore, in this class I learned a lot about what different and unique things can be done with Photoshop. From touching up a car to creating visual puns, Photoshop has a multitude of variety, and from this class, I was able to learn the ropes.

In conclusion, I learned about different elements of composition, different functions of a camera, how to take a good photo, and different creative uses of Photoshop. This is only the start, but now I have a good basis to learn even more about digital photography, all thanks to this class.

Photoshop Assignment - Puns and Dictionary

For this assignment, we were instructed to use Photoshop to create a visual dictionary surrounding two words of choice, as well as three puns based around imagery.

From this assignment, I learned more about the artistic freedom with Photoshop. Different ideas can be portrayed through the use of imagery.

Photoshop Assignment - Portrait Demo

For this assignment, we were instructed to use two different portrait shots - one studio and one not - and frame them together.

Here is the first portrait of my subject. Emma Terris
And here is the portrait of my second subject, Madison Hildebrandt
And here is the result of the two framed together.

From this assignment, I learned more about what works for portrait photography, and I learned more about how to frame within Photoshop.

Photo Assignment 6 - Macro

For Photo Assignment 6, I chose to do macro. The top picture is the one I turned in.
(Information Not Available Because I Uploaded Via My Laptop)

These pictures were taken at the new Metaphysical shop in Saline. From this assignment, I learned more about what different elements of composition can do and how they can be unique to macro photos.

Photoshop Assignment - Tutorials

As more of a free assignment, we were assigned to look into different photoshop tutorials to create new, creative things with the use of Photoshop. Here are a few I made.

From this project, I learned a lot about the multifaceted uses and versatile options within the Photoshop application. I learned more about what I can do artistically with a bit of freedom.

Photo Assignment 5 - Nature

For this weekly photo assignment, I went with the option of taking pictures of nature to turn in for my weekly photography.

The one I turned in for a grade is this one.

Here are a few other shots I got from the same day.

From this assignment, I learned more about working the lighting outside and balancing ISO, aperture, and shutter speed to create a balanced image of lighting.

Photoshop Assignment - MultipleMe

For this assignment, we were instructed to use Photoshop to merge layers of the same setting and create multiple of the same person.

For this assignment, I used pictures of myself in multiple poses in the media center, and then I used pictures of my friend Gabe in multiple poses. I learned a lot about fitting, merging, and editing different layers, and I learned more about what Photoshop is capable of.

Photo Assignment 4 - Black & White

For Photo Assignment 4, I chose to do a black and white photo in order to demonstrate contrast in a picture.
This is the original picture.

f / 7.1
1/60
+0.67
ISO 3600

And this is the black and white photo that was turned in.

The black and white demonstrates contrast in the picture and helps to bring out certain spots against others. It also goes for a more classic and natural feeling, as the photo demonstrates the subject in a natural position looking up at the camera.

Here are a few other black and white photos.

From this assignment, I learned that black and white photos can really bring out different contrasts and a black and white photo can have a completely different mood than a colored photo.

Photoshop Assignment - Pano

For this assignment, we were instructed to take pictures of a landscape, varying by thirds, and put it into Photoshop to create a panoramic photo. These are the results.

From this assignment, we learned more about how to use Photoshop, and specifically, what the "automate" feature can create. The computer is smart enough to take the information given, and guess the rest.
